May 19th 20th 21st ...

Not much to report because we are stuck in Eastbourne due to incredible westerly winds with forecast gusts up to 50mph. We are consoling ourselves with the old sailor’s adage ‘Better to be in the marina wishing you were out at sea, than out at sea wishing you were in the marina’. It is probably an old adage, but in this case, I do mean an old sailor.

We have both been doing some online ‘working from the boat’. For at least part of the day Kindred Spirit II is a floating office and hive of industry. Mark is chasing outstanding invoices, so if you owe him money then expect a reminder. We initially explored the marina side restaurants but have switched to cooking real food on board because our diet seemed to be getting too dependent on chips and cheese.

I am annoyed with myself today because we had noted a very slim weather window today, but it became more extended. We could have at least sailed round the corner for a change of scene to reach Brighton or Shoreham. I need to keep my eye on the ball and check the wind forecast late at night and perhaps even early in the morning in case it changes sufficiently to allow an escape. It is looking like the next few days might only offer relatively short windows of opportunity to get some sailing in and back into port before the next 30 plus winds arrive.

  1. Sounds relaxing and the cabin looks remarkably comfortable ( there again, any fool can be uncomfortable). Rubbish weather on land but due to change Tuesday or so.
Dave says hi and hope you got your flag sorted.

  2. I've been perched on a cliff top near Exmouth all week with a panoramic view of your intended route. Was really worried about you on Thursday as I was nearly blown over trying to take a few photos. Now realise you were safely hunkered down in Eastbourne! I'll attach a couple of pics to show you what you were missing... if I can work out how to do it.

  3. As someone who has just bought his third pair of Tracksters since 1977 (solely because when we moved last year Someone Who Will Remain Unnamed threw out pair no 2 ‘because they looked naff’) I think the day of his funeral should be named ‘Ron Hill Memorial Day’ and everyone with a pair of Tracksters should wear them all day in memory. One of the great design classics.

Yeah Pete, and you just ain't stylish enough to wear them....
